Dash cams are increasing in popularity year after year, so if you have decided to invest in one, then you need to know how to view the footage you have collected! In this blog post, we are going to take you through how to access and view the dash cam footage which you have recorded. It is vital to know how to view your dash cam footage in case you are involved in an accident, or you have recorded an incident on the roads. Remember these steps may vary depending on the make and model of your dashcam and the device you are using to download and view the footage on.

How to download and view dash cam footage

Firstly you need to remove the memory card from your dash cam. Before you begin this step it is important to make sure that your vehicle's ignition is switched off as this may lead to unplayable footage.

This step will only apply to Micro SD cards. Some memory card readers can accept the Micro SD card directly and don't need the adapter. Memory cards which are used in different dash cam makes and models require being used with an adapter. Insert your dash cams memory card into the adapter if you require and then insert the adapter into the appropriate slot of your card reader. It is essential to ensure that you are using the correct card reader to make sure that your memory card is read properly.

Once you have your card reader sorted and ready to go, insert the card reader into a USB port of your computer. When the memory card is inserted, an ‘AutoPlay’ window will usually appear as your computer recognises the device you are using. Depending on your computer you will be able to choose an option to view your files. A window will then open which will display all of the video files on your dash cams memory card, simply click to watch them.
